@adewale a Qaiku clone that is actually being actively developed, meaning that there will be interesting new features and stability instead of stagnation
Looks nice (very familiar design...). Posting doesn't work for me at all. No posts go through. Although this sounds familiar too, you don't need to copy everything ;-)
@edgethemighty Yep, nice to be able to divide the privacy of feeds and activity stream into different levels as well! Obviously still rough around the edges, but given how fast this went up that's totally forgiveable and it looks promising.
@bergie Re: "what features next?", I wouldn't pile on more features yet, but rather clean up the UI quirks of the existing stuff first so people don't get put off by those before giving it a proper chance. Sez the nitpicky goldsmith.
Is this the first Jaiku clone based on the new OS Jaiku, or identi.ca, or what? I've been living under a rock for the past few weeks. Everything changes so fast.
Also I was under the impression that this was being developed while it looked as though Jaiku was dying of neglect, ie designed to be literally a replacement Jaiku for the community to move to, not a "new" service per se, hence "Qaiku" and the design. Or not?
@spongefile, that's right. Which is why I'm not planning to move to Qaiku as Jaiku is working nicely, the community is here and the S60 client works. And @dw can have his 2-letter handle. :)
@spongefile: I got the same impression, having just followed the development by hearing a sentence here & there. I think the developers didn't know about Jaiku going OS yet when they were well on the way with this? Are the developers active in Jaiku and can they comment/discuss stuff on this thread?
@spongefile and @tulensrma just so things are clear... Qaiku is something built by company called Rohea and the questions about features, open source and all that are better directed to them. My only involvement so far is that I've helped as a beta tester and with some Midgard stuff, though that may change if they want the location-based features I've been itching to build ;-)
In any case, here are some of my thoughts why Qaiku will be an useful service.
@tulensrma I'm also sticking around on Jaiku as long as it works, but it's nice to have another viable option under development. I'm not returning to BK as long as they make location such a priority, Twitter is something else entirely, yadda yadda. We've all beaten this dearth of alternatives to death with a big stick of Meh.
@suviko , we'll started developing qaiku when we didn't know about jaiku going open source and when it was failing really bad. Or as we say in the frontpage: " Jaiku was quite close [what we wanted/needed], though, but unfortunately quite nothing has happened after the google bought the service, and we really aren't keeping our breath that nothing ever will."
Qaiku is still in early beta, there's are some quirks and improvements to be done. We'll try to tackle all of those as fast as possible.
@teemu, @ymb and all the others, if you'll get php-errors or other stuff that doesn't work, would you be so kind that you would c&p them and send them for example to myös email address (eero.holmila@rohea.com) .We'll add feedback form soon as well
@TAir, yep, or then you can have it a pony like, like @Semilia.
I don't know what to think about this at all. Part off me thinks it is a brilliant thing to try and replace what appeared a dying beast, part of me thinks it could hasten its demise with no hope of replacing it now Twitter has gone cosmic sized and Identi.ca and others have taken all the open source community.
I can't keep up.
@eholmila: Sorry if I managed to offend you personally, that was not my intention. The service doesn't look half bad and I'd actually like to give it a thumbs up but it's just very hard to take it seriously with that name. Any plans even considering rebranding it?
@eholmila, great to see this kind of work to be done, no offense from my part either. Keep up the good work.
It wasn't much point of trying out more things, when posting didn't work. I don't get any errors when posting, it just silently fails. (Like the grand dad itself sometimes, couldn't help cracking the obvious joke above, hurting myself more than you, I bet)
@tonio, non taken, We clearly understand your point of view; and there's some truth behind that. Nevertheless (okay never say never), I'd say we probably won't be rebranding. As said in ohter thread we weren't looking for similar name, but when Qaiku ("kaiku") come along, we just couldn't resist. I guess we'll see later if it was the stupidest move ever..:)
@teemu, actually we really liked that one :) Thanks for the good bug raport with errors as well, we're working on it.

Cool! Looks very slick.

The language division thing is very clever. I'll be screwing that up though with bilingual mutterings though, my apologies in advance.

Language? Bah. Slick privacy options is where it's at!

Is it going to be open source?
8 months, 4 weeks ago by adewale
@edythemighty private channels will do good for workstreaming, at least in our company
8 months, 4 weeks ago by bergie
@bergie I noticed you had an OMB support notice tagged in your profile. Any word on that?

Ok, I am there as well. Looks nice, for an early beta. :)

I agree completely with @spongefile: fix the UI first, then add features.

Pretty honest about what? Being sad?

@bergie ok, sorry--got the impression on Brightkite that you were involved.

@spongefile I was planning to "build my own", but then I heard what the Rohea guys were up to and decided to help them where I can instead.
